This trip was both part of our River Misbourne Circulars of ~10 km. The River Misbourne runs from its source at Great Missenden to Denham where it joins the Colne. Unlike several of the surrounding Misbourne-based circulars, this one can’t be accessed via the Chiltern Line although the 177 bus runs through the village connecting it with Great Missenden and Amersham. The guidance below will help you navigate but don’t use it as a fully accurate turn-by-turn guide. Always take a map and/or a GPX route and prepare well for the weather and terrain.

From the Crown Inn in Little Missenden village centre, walk west along Highmore Cottages Lane. After the last of the houses on the left and before the main road, take a footpath through a hedge on the left. You’ll now follow the Chiltern Heritage Trail across fields, joining Windsor Lane through Little Kingshill. Leave Windsor Road at the Baptist Church taking a footpath on the left, heading south. Follow the path on a south-easterly direction through woods and fields until you reach Watchet Lane. Be careful here as there’s no footpath on Watchet Lane for the short distance that you’ll be on it.

For the Holmer Green section, take a left onto Beech Tree Road then a right onto New Pond Road. You’re now at the half-way point and there’s a few pubs, shops and a cafe on the way if you need a break. New Pond Road continues onto Earl Howe Road after the village pond. Continue here and take a left onto Hogg Lane. This emerges into a fields where you’ll follow the path almost to the A404 before curving round to the North East. The return leg to Little Missenden is along Toby’s Lane, the same route as the final section of the Little Missenden and Shardeloes walk.
